Description

An outstanding specimen of classic-shaped Rhodochrosite from the venerable Siegerland Wolf Mine near Herdorf. Several larger vugs measuring up to 4.7 x 2.7 cm in a typically drusy Goethite matrix richly lined with rice-grain-shaped crystals of translucent, silky-lustrous, deep pink Rhodochrosite. They are measuring an impressive 0.7 cm (relatively large for this locality). The reverse side, with similar Rhodochrosite crystals, is also richly crystallized but not absolutely perfect. An outstanding specimen from the renowned Wolf Mine. Definitely a rich specimen with countless sharp, dogtooth Rhodochrosite crystals, characteristic of the style of this important and very old locality. We rarely see anything of this quality today, and this piece dates back at least to the 1950s, but most likely, this colorful piece is considerably older. It offers several good viewing angles to display the crystals. The specimen comes with a high quality lucite custom base.
