Description

An outstanding example of native Silver with well-developed, curled, and arching wires emerging from a Calcite matrix from Freiberg, Saxony, most likely the "Himmelfahrt Fundgrube". The native Silver wires have a natural dark patina with some metallic silver areas showing through here and there against the metallic gray-black Argentite. Upon closer inspection of the piece, even with slight magnification, I discovered wonderfully developed, hexagonal, steel-gray metallic POLYBASITE crystals (hard to see on the pics) scattered in large numbers throughout the specimen. This is a superb little display piece of exhibition quality, and the winding form of the Silver wires, the twisting and turning over the matrix is very aesthetic. A desirable display piece, complete all around, and an important old classic. The piece comes with a fine antique label.
