Description

This is a truly outstanding specimen of iron-poor Sphalerite, as so-Called cleiophane, in honey-brown, multifaced crystals up to over a centimeter in size. These are highly lustrous, transparent-gemmy, and nicely set on a matrix of white, glittering Quartz microcrystals. The old Lüderich mine is located approximately 10 km west of Cologne and was abandoned in 1978 after 126 years of operation. Thus, good pieces from here have become rare and have long been considered classics of North Rhine-Westphalia.
