Description

Specimens with well-crystallized Bornite crystals are not necessarily common and particularly from Cornwall, where they are rather rare. It is even more unusual to have two habits of crystallization on one specimen such as on this piece. On the one hand, there are steel-gray Bornite crystals with a blinding metallic luster in intimately intergrown crystals up to 2 mm. This first habit sits on and between Bornite crystals that have an almost cubic shape, are bronze to tombak-colored with a more subdued metallic luster. Some of the second habit show wonderful blue patina. This is an excellent classic Cornish specimen with wonderful aesthetics in regards of species and location: the famous and venerable Carn Brea Mine near the mining village Pool in the heart of the Camborne-Redruth District of Cornwall.
