Description

The Wolf Mine near Herdorf in Germany’s Siegerland region is undisputedly one of THE classic and legendary Rhodochrosite localities on earth. And until the great finds of the New World, the so-called "Raspberry Spars" from the Wolf Mine set the international standard for the species. Look at this specimen and you understand why! The typical orange-red scalenohedral crystals cover both sides of the specimen. They are long prismatic and, under magnification, you can see that they consist of countless smaller crystals. Since this classic Siegerland mine shut down in 1962, good Rhodochrosite specimens from here are among the most sought-after German classics.
