Description

An excellent Galena small cabinet sized specimen with lead-grey, multifaced metallic crystals up to 2 cm in size from the San Fernando mine near Herdorf in the Siegerland region. This rather unusual mine name dates back to the Herdorf miner Wilhelm Hähner, who initially mined in Mexico for several years before returning to his homeland and discovering and naming the mining area in the Sottersbach Valley in the mid-1800s. In 1953, it was incorporated into Erzbergbau Siegerland AG. The final closure took place on July 15, 1958. It remained part of the Füsseberg mine until March 31, 1962. In any case, especially considering the specific history of the mine, a rare and beautiful thing,- a typical and richly contrasting old specimen that has not been mined for a long time and is therefore rather seldom seen on the market.
