Description

Another typical and classic specimen of highly sought after Liroconite from the Cornish type locality for the species: Wheal Gorland in the St. Day mining district. The species is a rare secondary mineral found in the oxidation zones of Copper deposits. Two cavities that are housed in a gossan matrix on this exceptional, 8 cm tall specimen. Both vugs are lined with superbly crystallized, bright sea blue, typically lenticular Liroconite crystals. This shape earned the mineral the name “lentil ore” [Linsenerz] or “lentil copper” [Linsenkupfer] in the old German mining language. The fact that this type of specimens was largely found before 1850, these specimens, especially those of this high quality, are extremely rare and sought after.
