Description

An extremely pretty collector´s item with glassy, botryoids of light grey-blue Chalcedony with a characteristic greasy luster. Very typical for the locality Hüttenberger Erzberg, the matrix is olive-beige Siderite. This is definitely a classic piece with a perfect display side from the historic Iron-Manganese deposit hosted in limestone in Styria, Austria. The ore deposits of Hüttenberg were discovered and first mined not by the Romans but by the Celts ca. 1,000BC. After a long period of mining, iron extraction at Hüttenberg ended in 1978. After reclamation work in 1980, it was converted into a visitors’ mine.
