Description

Well formed and multifaced, highly lustrous Cassiterite crystals, accompanied by milky Quartz crystals cover this beautiful specimen from the St. Agnes mining area on the north coast of Cornwall in England. The Cassis here are jet-black in colour and sharp edged. Of course most of the crystals appear black, but once well-lit and observed with slight magnification we see olive-brown colour and good lucency. Important, Cornish mineral specimens today are "as rare as hens´ teeth". This fine, old Cassiterite specimen, loaded with extremely lustrous crystals, probably dates back to the hey-day of tin mining in Cornwall, the 1800s. Despite not absolutely perfect, this is a very good and classic Cornish Cassiterite specimen.
