Description

Another very excellent Liroconite specimen, richly set with typical mint-blue-green Liroconite crystals on gossan matrix. A very characteristic appearance for its place of discovery: the type locality for the species, Wheal Gorland in the mining district of St. Day. The sharp crystals with a vitreous luster display a typical lenticular appearance, which gave the species the name “lentil ore” [Linsenerz] or “lentil copper” [Linsenkupfer] in the old German miner´s language. A magnificent example of the rare and sought-after Copper Arsenate at a very reasonable price in my opinion. When you consider that most of the Liroconite specimens in existence date from before 1850, you can understand why these pieces are so rare and sought after.
