Description

Wonderful aggregates of thin, tabular, six-sided, platy crystals of the rare lead sulfate carbonate Leadhillite from the TYPE LOCALITY Leadhills near Lanarkshire in Scotland. In this larger miniature it is associated with beautiful small Cerussite crystals. The Leadhillite crystals here stand edgewise and lie above several vugs with a characteristic pearly luster and slightly yellowish tinge. The larger aggregate has a diameter of up to 1.8 cm. Some crystals show slight edge wear, which is not unusual for old specimens of this type. The Leadhillite crystals are formed on a layer of colorless-white, lustrous Cerussite microcrystals. A rare and impressive specimen due to its crystal size, abundance, and shape from the old Leadhills mining district in Lanarkshire of southern Scotland. This specimen would not be out of place in any major collection.
