Description

This is a very excellent specimen of the relatively rare Lead-Copper-sulphate Caledonite with excellent deep blue-green crystals. These have very nicely pronounced longitudinal striations on the prism faces, they are sharp and have excellent translucency. In addition to the prismatic habit, more or less well-developed Caledonite crystals can be found in numerous other spots on this extremely rich and magnificent miniature specimen. Good specimens of Caledonite are difficult to obtain from any locality on this planet, but this piece is from the type locality of the species: Leadhills, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK. Such high-quality Caledonite specimens are now rarely on the market and collectors guard them like treasures in their collections of old classic.
