Description

This wonderful specimen features a typical gray-brown, limonite-rich matrix with magnificently sharp, partially isolated crystals of glassy and gem-like, deep blue Scorodite, up to 0.7 cm in diameter, nicely lining a wide opened vug. Only a few localities worldwide are known for fine Scorodite, a not particularly common, hydrated iron arsenate. It is quite rare for this locality, and this specimen is certainly among the finest found in the famous Aghbar Mine in Morocco. It comes from a small pocket discovered in 2005 and most of the specimens dispersed to the worldwide collections. Furthermore, given the matrix and the crystal shape and color, it could quite easily pass as a Scorodite from the Ojuela Mine and claiming it as coming from Ojuela would command a "historic" premium for the locality. So, all in all, I think this is a wonderful quality specimen that, apart from a few localities in Tsumeb and Mexico, places it fairly high on the "food chain".
