Description

This elegant miniature sized specimen comes from early finds in Taouz in the 1960s when the Vanadinites from Mibladen were not yet known. This is a contrastful and extremely attractive piece of red Vanadinite on Coronadite. Several dark red, translucent, hexagonal Vanadinite crystals up to 1.3 cm in diameter are loosely set on a mounded surface of satin-black Coronadite. The Vanadinites are luminous and have a bright, silky luster. Many specimens from here contain the black mineral commonly referred to as "manganese oxides" or "Goethite", but this is actually Coronadite and it makes a rustic and beautifully contrasting combination specimen. Coronadite is a lead-manganese oxide and not particularly rare, but as in this case, it makes a dramatic background.
