Description

Good German Blaubleierz (blue lead ore) specimens primarily come from the world-famous Kautenbach mine near Bernkastel-Kues in the Moselle valley. It is all the more astonishing that this piece comes from the Heilige Dreifaltigkeit mine near Zschopau in the Saxon Ore Mountains. "Blaubleierz" is the old German mining term for pseudomorphs of Galena after Pyromorphite. This specimen is an outstanding example of a classic old German mineral, in which the Galena has partially replaced the Pyromorphite, which is clearly visible in a few fractures. The piece is remarkably aesthetic, and considering the rarity of the locality, I would call it a KILLER PIECE ALL THE WAY. This excellent specimen was most likely mined in the early 1900s, as the Freiberg Mining Academy was conducting specimen mining at this mine at the time. Such pseudomorphs from this locality, however, have always been extremely rare and sought after. The piece was in the collection of Bernhard Dünkel and comes with a high quality acrylic custom base.
