Description

This is a very excellent example of Ilvaite from an extremely rare and classic US locality: the Laxey Mine in Owyhee County, southern Idaho, that worked a base and precious metal deposit known since the early 1870s. Ilvaite from this locality was once described in a Heritage auction catalog that “These Ilvaites were once considered the best in the world and were then and are now exceptionally rare”. And this specimen is on of those. A beautiful cluster with excellent, chisel-shaped, sharp Ilvaite crystals with superb terminations. Excellently formed and highly lustrous. The Ilvaite crystals are associated with little Hedenbergite and smaller, somewhat elongated, delicate pastel green Quartz. Definitely rare and aesthetic.
