Description

We are looking at one of the best small miniature-sized Gratonite we have ever laid our hands on. It comes from the TYPE LOCALITY, the Excelsior Mine on Cerro Pasco in the Peruvian Andes. The extremely sharp Gratonite crystals with a metallic luster cover the entire display side of the specimen. They have a steel-grey tint with some slightly blue or reddish tarnish. Excellent terminated and largely perfect. Gratonite is a rare Lead Arsenic sulfosalt and good specimens such as this one likely date back to the 1930s. In that time most of the few really good tracks have been salvaged - and this is a KILLER PIECE ALL THE WAY. Ex Richard V. Gaines/Ex J. R.Jelks collections.
