Description

This outstanding Mexican Amethyst specimen is in nor really comparable to the specimens from the world-famous Amethyst deposits of Las Vigas de Ramirez in the state of Veracruz or Amatitlán in the state of Guerrero, because this species is much more rare at the Valenciana Silver and Gold mine near the town of Guanajuato in the state of Guanajuato. In addition, this extremely colorful specimen is completely intact, with countless sharp Amethyst crystals with excellent terminations, excellent vitreous luster and very good translucency. What is captivating here, however, is the incredibly deep violet color, which makes this piece an absolute eye-catcher. The massive Silver vein of the La Valenciana was discovered in 1750, and it took almost a quarter century before mining started in 1974. The operations made the Spanish mine owner and the Count of Valenciana very wealthy. Parts of the mine have been turned into a museum.
