Description

Here we see a truly outstanding piece of Hutchinsonite crystals on matrix from the well-known La Libertad Mine of Quiruvilca, Peru. In my opinion, it is one of the richest examples of its kind anywhere, and by far the richest piece of this rare, thallium-rich sulfosalt that I have handled over the years. While not the largest, it is the most richly crystallized. It consists of extremely robust, diverging sprays of needle-shaped Hutchinsonite crystals, many of them doubly terminated. The crystals, up to 0.6 cm in size, are lustrous, steel gray, and they almost completely cover the matrix. The Hutchinsonites are accompanied by small, tabular, colorless Baryte crystals what is a nice bonus. This is an astonishing example of the rare lead-thallium sulfarsenite.
