Description

This is a very fine, rich, and very rare specimen of Zincgartrellite from the magnificent Tsumeb mine in Namibia! Zincgartrellite is one of the rarest species found at this locality—which is also the type locality. It is an extremely rare lead-zinc arsenate, and specimens of this type came from the first oxidation zone in the early 1900s. There have been claims of more recent finds, but any evidence is lacking, and most of the specimens tested by us and others have turned out to be something else but NOT Zincgartrellite. Genuine Zincgartrellite remains extremely rare, and as far as I can tell, none is currently available on the market. This is, in any case, an extremely colorful and rich specimen from the collection of Tsumeb specialist Gerd Tremmel, after whom the equally rare species Gerdtremmelite is named, and who had this piece ANALYSED.
