Description

This is a very colourful specimen of deep emerald green, glassy and gemmy, Grossular crystals, to 0.6 cm across, richly covering a quartz-rich matrix. This is the very rare variety of green garnet, UVAROVITE, and much more gemmy and sparkly in person - these are hard to capture in photos! It is a rare specimen, with high aesthetic impact and from old finds of the Black Lake Mine. This is one of the largest, now inactive, open pit chrysotile asbestos mines in the area and good specimens like this one are still history.
