Description

Pyrite is a mineral species that is very common in variety geologic and mineralogic environments. So it comes a little bit as a surprise that the species is relatively rare compared to many other sites worldwide and considering the mineral wealth in Tsumeb. Finding an excellent specimen such as this one is a pleasant surprise. Its brass-yellow, crystals, some of which are heavily striated, reach sizes of over 1 cm. They are associated with lead-grey, somewhat matt metallic Galena. This unique piece comes from the collection of former Tsumeb mine foreman Peter Döring, who worked in the mine in the 1960s and 1970s.
