Description

This is definitely an ULTRA-RARE locality piece, to be precise a one-time find of collector Dr. Manfred Schönfelder, Leverkusen Germany, who in the late 2010s discovered a variety of miarolitic cavities in the pegmatites in the Penalva do Castelo region of northern Portugal. His discovery is described in detail in the German mineral magazine Lapis in 2018 (5/2018 p. 24 – 31). And this specimen is a very excellent Bertrandite from this find, which is probably one of the best from this locality. Numerous colorless to white, translucent, thin tabular crystals form a cone-shaped crystal cluster measuring over 2 cm in size. Bertrandite is associated with excellent, gemmy Smoky Quartz up to 1.5 cm with a vitreous luster, and glassy, sharp Albite crystals. Definitely a top specimen that is practically unheard of on the collectors’ market. A great opportunity to add to your collection ... just saying.
