Description

This is one of the rare and nicely contrasted matrix pieces from the great find of rare "Blue Alkali Beryl" from Deo Darrah of Badakhshan, Afghanistan. The crystals her are showing a fine colour-zoning, very good and typical luster and great overall aesthetics. The superb terminations are multiple faceted and they are slightly reminiscent to fringes. The pocket of these "guys" were found in, approximately 2012 and was small and tight. Few matrix specimens were recovered. This one piece, probably represents ten percent of the entire pocket. This is a large intergrown cluster of lustrous and translucent, rich blue alkali-rich Beryl crystals, up to 1.5 cm each and perched on creamy matrix. The piece is robust, dramatic, and colourful. It preserves beautiful and also interesting contrasts with the matrix as well. A significant specimen from this rare find. These were originally thought to be Rosterite or Vorobyevite, but further analysis by Dr. Federico Pezzotta confirmed they are alkali-rich beryls.
