Description

Mined on and off since the 17th century and finally abandoned in the early 1960s and since reclaimed, the Rosenberg Mine was a lead-zinc-copper mine. So it is no surprise that it yielded great specimens. One of which is this Galena ore specimen. A main opaque galena crystal and a large translucent brown shpalerite crystal are perched on a bed of galena and sphalerite crystals in a vug in massive lead-zinc ore. Unfortunately we can not date the specimen and the label nor the provenance, however, the font of the handwritten label suggests mid-19th to early 20th century. It miht not look like much but it is an exceptional ore specimen.
