Description

The Wannigletscher area near the Italian border close to Monte Cervandone has produced fine and particularly rare Alpine minerals for hundreds of years, and this Cafarsite-on-matrix specimen is no exception. Cafarsite is a VERY RARE calcium, titanium, iron, and manganese arsenate and this site is the TYPE-LOCALITY. In this particular case, the specimen features a 1.1 cm large crystal of Cafarsite that is sharp-edged, black-gray in color with metallic luster, and partially very slightly altered. This modified octahedron is accompanied by smaller cousins and is nicely exposed on typical matrix.
