Description

Bournonite specimens from the Clausthal-Zellerfeld mining area are extremely rare and highly desired, especially by local collectors. Although this specimen is not quite perfect, it is nevertheless a very attractive and rare piece with highly metallic lustrous, multifaceted, steel-gray crystals measuring 0.5 cm, associated with some Galena and nicely perched on white crystallized Quartz. The Kaiser Wilhelm Shaft, or Kaiser Wilhelm II Shaft, was the central winding and ropeway shaft for the lead and zinc mining industry in Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the Upper Harz Mountains and was abandoned along with the entire mine in 1930. An absolute classic and hard to come by nowadays. The specimen comes with an original label of the Loorz collection.
