Description

An extremely fine specimen consisting of a rich Copper ore matrix with a wide open vug. The cavity is richly covered with distinctly dark red, octahedral Cuprite crystals measuring up to 0.6 cm and display slightly curved edges. The Cuprites are partly densly but also loosely intergrown, have a very beautiful luster and are perched on a sparkling bed of white Calcite rhombohedrons. Very aesthetic mineral from the Kombat Mine in Namibia. Good and undamaged specimens like this one have always been rare and sought after. The Manganese deposit of the Kombat Mine was discovered in 1850, with mining starting ca. 50 years later. It was closed in 2008 due to problems with dewatering.
