Description

This is very exceptional Barite specimen, not only in terms of crystal habit but also in terms of overall aesthetics. The French locality Les Malines, and here in particular the Les Cèdres Mine, near the Mediterranean in southern France, is better known for snow-white, spherical rosettes-shaped Barite crystal clusters on a matrix covered with Sphalerite crystals. However, the crystals on this particular specimen are rather chunky-tabular and have a chisel-shaped habit. The color is a very light amber with an excellent translucency that the included Galena crystals can be seen very well, even with the unaided eye. Luster and terminations are also very well developed. A few barely noticeable imperfections here and there are easily forgiven on this superb double-sided crystallized specimen and do not distract form the overall aesthetics.
