Description

This is a wonderful and striking miniature-sized specimen of clove-brown Pyromorphite, grown on both sides of a rosette-shaped cluster of bladed glassy Baryte. The barrel-shaped, up to 1.1 cm measuring crystals, contrast beautifully with the glittering exceedingly pale flesh coloured- whitish Baryte matrix, particularly on the display face. Pyromorphite is a wonderful secondary lead mineral and desired for its diverse colors and crystal forms. Brown is one of the rarest colors, and although this color may not be the brightest or most attractive, it is among the most sought-after. There are only a few mines worldwide that have produced fine brown Pyromorphite crystals. Le Rossingol in the Chaillac mining district, Indre, Centre-Val de Loire, France, is one such locality. This wonderful specimen is an outstanding example and the quality of this specimen is exceptional and leaps out from the normal standard often seen from the Chaillac mining district.
