Description

From my home site comes this exceptional piece,- a stunning cluster of stout but still elegant tabular Baryte crystals as so-called "Cockscomb-Barytes". This style is unique in Black Forest and probably worldwide as well. The source of all of those pieces was a relatively large pocket, discovered in the late 1960s at the Neue Hoffnung Gang (adit) of the Anton Mine near Wieden in Black Forest. Despite there was a pretty large number of pieces, they spread out rather quickly in countless, primarily central European collections. Just a few years later, at the end of the 1970s, either good specimens almost disappeared from the scene or achieved astronomical prices for the time. And this is a really great 360° piece with outstanding aesthetics. It has typical beige-brown colour, the crystals are sharp and lustrous with multiple "cockscomb-terminations". It is pristine all around and would be an enrichment for each collection. This kind of material, especially in this great quality and aesthetics, is exceedingly hard to come by nowadays and rarely offered for sale as well.
