Description

The Ojuela Mine, in Mapimí, Durnago, Mexico, well known among collectors worldwide, is probably Mexico´s greatest mineral locality. The deposit was discovered by the Spanish in 1598, and actively mined for 350 years. Mineral specimens in significant numbers did not appear until 1946, and the mine is best known for the world´s finest adamite, legrandite, kottigite/parasymplesite, and paradamite. However, it also produced Fluorite of note such as this very good and typical specimen. Large crystals with rounded edges are water clear to transparent with a light purple hue. They are gemmy with a high luster, and are perched on limestone gossan with small sparkling Calcite crystals.
