Here we have a very fine, old-time Rhodochrosite from the famous Wolf Mine of Herdorf, Siegerland in Germany. This miniature has one well-defined pocket of medium-red Rhodochrosite. The botryoidal clusters are actually composed of densely packed Rhodo crystals, and the luster is very good. There are even a few, razor sharp, green due to Malachite covering, Copper crystals in the main pocket, which are a gorgeous accent. Rhodochrosite from the Wolf mine is probably one of the best known mineral species from Germany in the world. The specimens from there are considered to be the best of Europe and they are present in museums and collections worldwide. Finds were restricted to the active mining period so nowadays specimens from there are highly sought after and increasing in value. The mine was closed in 1962, so this piece is still a classics.
