Description

This is an important, relatively large, but superbly formed single crystal of Gadolinite-(Y) from Birkeland of the Iveland area of Norway. This crystal has stepped faces, with a dark, jet-black colour with slight reddish-brown reflexes and great luster. There is some contacting at the top and bottom what doesn´t detract from the great aesthetics and unusual good shape. An interesting side note: Yttrium is a significant component of this mineral, and it was named after J. Gadolin, who actually discovered Yttrium. Impressive quality for the species, crystals like this are few and far between. It masses 40 grams.
